Two people are dead after the Coast Guard says a plane crashed Tuesday night about 1 mile east of the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
The search continued early Wednesday for two others that the FAA said were also on the plane.
According to a released statement from the FAA, a Mexican-registered Learjet 35 aircraft that departed from FIA went down in the Atlantic Ocean about 8 p.m.
The FAA said two pilots and two passengers were on board the small plane. FAA notified the Coast Guard that the plane went down, as it took rescuers 45 minutes to find the debris field, about two miles east of Fort Lauderdale.
The Coast Guard said two bodies were found along with debris as the search continued for other survivors in the water
WPLG-TV reported the search continued into early Wednesday morning for the rest of the victims. More than 50 rescuers participated in the search and recovery operation.
The medical flight, with a medical crew on board, was en route to Cozumel, Mexico, authorities said.
