MIDDLEBURG, Fla. -

The Florida Highway Patrol said a 35-year-old man died after he was struck by an SUV Wednesday night in Clay County.

The crash happened just after 11 p.m. on Bluejay Drive at Hudson Place, just off County Road 218 in Middleburg.

Troopers said Joshua Harris was walking northbound on Bluejay Drive in the middle of the road when a Chevy Blazer SUV, traveling in the same direction, struck Harris.

Troopers said Harris died on impact. Investigators said they are unsure why Harris was walking in the middle of the roadway.

Krista Stanley, 18, was driving the SUV with her 2-month-old son in the vehicle.

According to FHP, the area where the crash happened was very dark and the driver may not have seen the man.  Troopers say alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

According to an FHP report, charges are pending.
