ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -

A person is under arrest on unrelated charges following a suspected arson at the American Inn on State Road 16 near the St. Augustine Premium Outlet Mall.

St. Johns County Fire Rescue said the initial 911 call came in at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday morning. The fire was limited to one guest room and by the time crews arrived the fire was out and there was only visible smoke.

They traced the source of the fire and found a pile of clothes had been intentionally burned. The person in custody, who has not been identified, could face additional charges.

The American Inn was evacuated briefly. There were no reports of injuries. The estimated damage will cost around $1,000.
