Firefighters battle brush fire outside NAS Jax

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Firefighters battled a brush fire believed to be caused by a lightning strike on the perimeter of Naval Air Station Jacksonville on Friday.

According to the NAS Jax Public Affairs Office, the NAS Jax Fire Department, Orange Park Fire Department, Clay County Fire Department, Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department and the Florida Forestry Service worked for about 2½ hours to bring the fire under control.

There is no danger to base personnel or surrounding communities, but firefighters remained on the scene to watch over the area, the public affairs office said.
