ROCKLEDGE, Fla. -

Police say an infant died after being left in a hot, locked pickup truck while her father worked in a Rockledge shopping plaza.

Florida Today reports the incident was reported about 4:50 p.m. Monday. Co-workers told police they heard the father screaming when he opened the door and found the little girl inside.

Police spokeswoman Donna Seyferth says the child may have been left inside the truck for several hours.

Police and paramedics attempted to resuscitate the child, but were not successful. She was around 9 months old.

An investigation is ongoing.
