Florida's crime rate dropped 4.7% in 2013

Florida's crime rate dropped 4.7 percent in 2013, the lowest number since the state began compiling the statistics.
In Jacksonville, the rate dropped 4.3 percent.
Gov. Rick Scott, along with Florida Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner Gerald Bailey and a group of Tampa Bay-area law enforcement officers made the announcement Wednesday.
The overall number of crimes fell by 27,380 or 4.7 percent to 698,607 total.
According to statistics compiled by law enforcement agencies and the FLDE, there were 970 murders in 2013, a 3.9 percent drop from the previous year.
Crime in Florida's biggest counties is also down - 2.9 percent in Miami-Dade County, 6.4 percent in Hillsborough, 6.3 percent in Broward and 0.5 in Pinellas.
