Family holding vigil for 2 shooting victims on Westside

Police still have not made any arrests in quadruple killing

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A vigil will be held Monday night to remember two of the four victims of a fatal shooting on the Westside last week.

The vigil will honor Derek Williams and Gontrell Hagans, according to Williams' sister. It's scheduled to begin at dusk on Randolph Street in the Murray Hill area, near where the killings happened Thursday.

Police still aren't talking about a motive behind the shooting deaths, which happened at Williams' home.

"My son, he was 27 years old. He is still a baby. He didn't have to get killed like that," said Sheryl Hagans, Gontrell's mother. "Please find the killer."

The other victims were sisters. A vigil was held for Keshell and Keyonna Brown over the weekend. Keshell's father said the young women's lives were taken much too soon.

"Her smile -- she was a nice person, a nice girl, a nice girl, never caused trouble. [She was a] good daughter. I had a good daughter," said Christopher Daniels.

He said his daughter always had a smile on her face and was always with her sister. It's those memories he and his family are holding on to now.

"She's in a better place now. I know where she's at now," said Daniels.

Neighbors are also affected by the killings. Jennifer Trencherd recently moved into her new home just a few doors down from the shootings.

She said she now double checks to make sure her home and car doors are locked. But even that doesn't ease her family's fears.

"I'm just trying to reassure my daughter that she's going to be OK and it's something we're going to get through," Trencherd said.

Mary Lou Burke said she's tired of going through this -- living in a community where gun violence and drugs fester.

"There's really nothing I can do," she said. "I can't afford to move. So you just deal with it."

No arrests have been made. If you know anything, call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.

The funeral for the Brown sisters will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Household of Faith Church at 925 Edgewood Ave. W. The sisters' grandmother said the public is invited to attend.
