Funeral held for D'Angelo Stallworth

Stallworth was shot in confrontation with police

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Family and friends said goodbye Saturday to a father of three shot and killed by police.

Police shot 28-year-old D'Angelo Stallworth after they say he held a gun at an officer's chest during an altercation.

His homecoming celebration was used as a time to honor his life and fight for justice.

Hundreds of people attended the ceremony at the Paxon Revival Church.

Friends offered comforting words to Stallworth's grieving family, many wearing the avid Laker fan's favorite colors, to honor and remember him.

"Being here is a celebration its not sad and were all mourning but in time I know that our pain will heal," Jasmine Fountano a childhood friend said.

Fountano grew up with Stallworth and though they weren't related she considered him family.

"He's always been uplifted in his spirit as children when things were tough and rough he kept a smile on his face. Never knew if anything was wrong with him," Fountano said.

That's why it's hard for her to imagine him placing a gun to an officer's chest.
That's what police say he did just before officers shot and killed him.

Victor Robinson and his daughters were just a few of many who came to the funeral wearing shirts with the hashtag Justice4Dee. The attorney for Stallworth's family says a second autopsy refutes the police story about what led to his shooting death.

"D'angelo is like my kid and you know I've got kids his age. It's too many police killings here and I don't know the answer but we've got to come to some type of conclusion," Victor Robinson said.

JSO has told the family that because it is still an ongoing investigation and they would not talk about what happened.
