Georgia soldier on trial in death of pregnant wife
A Fort Stewart soldier is scheduled to stand trial before a court-martial on charges he killed his pregnant wife more than 2½ years ago.
Opening statements in the military trial of Pvt. Isaac Aguigui were scheduled Monday. The soldier from Cashmere, Wash., is charged with murder and with causing the dead of his unborn child.
His wife, Sgt. Deirdre Aguigui, was found dead in their Fort Stewart apartment in July 2011. A military autopsy failed to determine her cause of death, but Isaac Aguigui was charged last year after a Georgia state medical examiner concluded she was smothered or choked to death.
Isaac Aguigui is already serving a life sentence in a Georgia prison. He pleaded guilty last summer in a double slaying eight months after his wife's death.
