A 12-year-old girl died Friday, a week after being critically injured in an Arlington crash.
Jacksonville police said Savannah Pheiffer was a rear passenger inside the extended cab of a pickup truck that was heading northbound on Townsend Boulevard approaching Merrill Road on April 4.
Another vehicle also traveling northbound on Townsend crashed into the rear of the pickup at a high speed, police said.
They said the pickup then struck another vehicle that was in front of it as a result of the force of the initial impact.
Pheiffer, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was taken to a hospital, where she died Friday.
She was one of eight people injured in the wreck. Witnesses told police that the Pontiac that hit the pickup was going at least twice the posted speed limit of 35 mph.
The driver of that Pontiac was taken into custody and alcohol is believed to have played a role in the crash, police said.
Police said their investigation is ongoing.
