TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -

Gov. Rick Scott on Thursday appointed Lawrence Harvey to a vacant seat on the Putnam County Commissioner.

Harvey, 52, of Interlachen, is the former chief executive officer of Harvey Insurance Agency Inc. He has served on the board of Communities in Schools of Putnam County and on the board of directors for the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce.

Harvey will fill the seat of Commissioner Ed Taylor, who passed away in September.  Taylor was a Navy veteran who had resided in Putnam County for more than 40 years.  He was also founder and president of Save Rodman Inc., which fought to save the Rodman Dam.

Taylor's term will end Nov. 18, 2014, after the next election.
