Habitual felony offender sentenced to 35 years

Dustin Vann, 35, guilty on 3 charges

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A man was sentenced to 35 years in prison Monday for an attempted robbery and related charges.

Dustin Vann, 27, will serve two terms of 30 years concurrently on attempted robbery and aggravated fleeing, both second degree felonies. He will also serve five years on a grand theft auto charge.

In 2012 Vann tried to rob an elderly woman when he pulled out an air pistol and threatened to kill her and her dog.

"She was terrified," said Assistant State Attorney Ferebee. "This replica firearms shoots plastic pellets, but it is still very realistic."

Vann qualifies as a prison release reoffender because he committed the crimes after having been released from prison only four months prior. He was on probation from carjacking and false imprisonment charges in Broward County.

Vann pleaded no contest to the charges of attempted robbery with a weapon, aggravated fleeing and grand theft in August.
