JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Family and friends of a 25-year-old man killed in a hit-and-run early Saturday morning paid their last respects at a funeral service Tuesday morning.

Daniel Stein was hit and killed by a car while crossing Third Street at Jacksonville Beach after a night of watching fireworks and hanging out with friends.  The funeral was held at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home on Hendricks Avenue.

"He obviously touched so many people's lives, and it's a tragedy that it happened," Melissa Laffery, one of Stein's friends, said at a tribute to Stein held Monday on the beach.

Sources told News4Jax that the black Mercedes police believe hit Stein was recovered over the weekend and is being processed for evidence by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.  So far, Jacksonville Beach police have not confirmed that information.
