Woman killed, man shot at Westside home

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman was shot and killed and her boyfriend was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after being shot Friday morning at a Westside home.

Police responded to the home in the 4600 block of Sunderland Road about 11:30 a.m., and four people were gathered outside. Officers knocked on the door and a man opened up. He'd been shot.

Inside, police found the woman, 33-year-old Kendra Nagy, who'd been shot to death.

The man was taken to UF Health Jacksonville in critical condition.

Neighbors told police they heard gunshots overnight.

"Just hearing from a neighbor, a random phone call, that there was a murder two blocks over is extremely unsettling," said one resident who didn't want to be identified.

Police said the four people outside the home had come to check on the couple and found the man, who appeared to have been beaten. Police later found out he was shot.

There was no immediate suspect information, and police wouldn't say if they were looking for anyone.

"We're still in the early parts of the investigation," Sgt. T.K. Waters said. "We want to be absolutely sure before we come up with anything definitive and tell you exactly what happened here."
