TAMPA, Fla. -

Two Illinois teenagers remain in a Tampa hospital following a plane crash that killed the father of one of the girls.

Authorities say the PA-28 airplane left Chicago Friday night, bound for Clearwater. It crashed early Saturday onto a road just north of the St. Petersburg-Clearwater Airport.

The girls -- Katherine Bronken and Keyana Linbo, both 15 -- were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa with serious injuries. Officials say 53-year-old Jeffrey Bronken died at the scene.

The hospital has not provided an update on the girls' conditions. They are both from Round Lake, Ill.

The Federal Aviation Administration says it received a radio call from the plane indicating possible fuel problems.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
