JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

The city of Jacksonville is inviting residents and visitors downtown to the banks of the St. Johns River to ring in the new year with a fireworks spectacular.

The fireworks will begin at midnight Jan. 1 and will be choreographed to music that can be heard from loudspeakers at the Jacksonville Landing.

Fireworks will be set off from two barges in the downtown area on the River. The barges will be placed in front of the Landing and Friendship Fountain Park, as well as east of the Main Street Bridge in front of the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront and Riverplace Tower.

There will be no vehicle or pedestrian traffic permitted on the Main Street Bridge from 11:45 p.m. to about 12:20 a.m. River traffic will also be halted during that time.

Spectators can view the fireworks from various vantage points, such as along the Southbank, Northbank, downtown and parts of Riverside.
