JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating a crash after a police cruiser hit a pedestrian on the Westside on Tuesday night.
At 9:43 p.m., JSO Officer Kim Porter was traveling home after her shift when she was involved in a crash with a pedestrian while traveling east on Kings Road in her marked patrol car, according to police.

The injuries to the pedestrian were initially believed to be life-threatening, and the person was taken to a local hospital. Police later said the injuries were non-life-threatening.
"From my understanding the pedestrian was in the roadway at this time," JSO spokesman Shannon Hartley said. "It's an ongoing investigation and we'll be able to get more details in terms of where the actual impact was made and all that as the investigation continues."
Police said the identity of the pedestrian and the exact location of the crash would be released at a later time, along with the other investigative details, due to the ongoing status of the investigation.
"There's no standard protocol in terms of like with an officer involved with a shooting type incident, where we place them on administrative leave. That's not typically the case," Hartley said. "It's handled case by case. Obviously we have concern for the officer and how she is feeling [with this] traumatic incident."
