JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A Jacksonville Sheriff's Office police cruiser was involved in a crash in which the driver of a van ran a red light downtown Thursday morning, according to police.

The crash happened about 9:45 a.m. at the intersection of East Monroe and North Liberty streets.

Police said the officer was traveling south on Liberty Street when the van heading east on Monroe Street ran the red light, causing the crash.

The officer was transported to an area hospital for observation. The woman driving the van was not hurt.

The driver of the van was cited for running the light, police said.

The intersection was closed during the crash investigation until about noon.
