JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

An on-duty police officer was involved in an three-car accident on Atlantic Boulevard near Brookview Drive Thursday night.

Police told Channel 4 that the officer involved in the crash was responding to an emergency to assist fire and rescue when he crashed his police car into another car and caused a chain reaction crash.

The police officer, identified as D. Quilaton, was not using his emergency lights when the crash occurred.

Police said two cars, a red pickup truck and an Acura, were stopped in the roadway when Quilaton hit the back of the Acura, causing it to hit the back of the truck.

Quilaton and the two people in the truck were OK and were not transported to the hospital. The driver of the Acura was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
