JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Police Officer Misty Turner is credited with saving a fawn who was born as its mother was struck and killed by a car early Wednesday morning.

The accident occurred near Lem Turner and Interstate 295 about 5 a.m.

The mother deer died. Turner heard about the incident and went to the scene to care for the fawn.

The officer went to a local feed store where she purchased colustrum -- a form of milk produced by mammals -- to feed the fawn. An employee at the feed store said Turner was incredibly concerned for the fawn and wanted to make sure it got whatever it needed.

The fawn was taken to a recuse foster family.

"Great job, Officer Turner! We are so proud of you," the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office posted on its Facebook page Wednesday afternoon.
