JTA Board agrees to provide ferry funding

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority Board of Directors on Thursday approved a $200,000 contribution to help fund the St. Johns River Ferry's operation for the fiscal year 2014.
The St. Johns River Ferry Commission, which is managing the ferry service, received funding from the city of Jacksonville earlier to keep the service operating.
"The St. Johns River Ferry supports local tourism and significantly reduces commuter trips," said JTA CEO Nathaniel P. Ford Sr. "In addition, contributing to the ferry's operation further strengthens relationships between the JTA, the Florida Department of Transportation and the city of Jacksonville in providing effective ferry services."
The funds will be allocated by the JTA's operating budget in fiscal year 2014. The St. Johns River Ferry Commission will provide a monthly financial performance report and a long-term funding plan to the JTA.
