Woman appealing 20-year sentence on aggravated battery convictions

Marissa Alexander is sentenced to 20 years in prison on three counts of aggravated assault.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Duval County judge on Wednesday denied the motion by the lawyer for Marissa Alexander that she be released on bond pending her appeal of her aggravated battery convictions.

Alexander is serving a 20-year sentence for firing one shot into a wall during an argument with her estranged husband. She claimed self-defense under Florida's "stand your ground" law.
