Former Georgia secretary of state and third-place finisher in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate will support U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston in the July runoff.
Kingston's campaign confirmed to The Associated Press that the two former rivals will appear Wednesday to announce her choice in the July 22 runoff between Kingston and businessman David Perdue.
Handel finished with 22 percent of the vote in the seven-candidate primary on May 20 primary. Perdue came in first with 31 percent, followed by Kingston's 26 percent.
Her endorsement gives Kingston another nod from the tea party wing of the party after he's already gotten the nod from conservative radio host Erik Erickson, who previously backed Handel. Kingston also has an endorsement from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
The winner of Republican runoff will face Democratic nominee Michelle Nunn on Nov. 4. The general election will help determine which party controls the Senate for the final two years of President Barack Obama's administration.
