Labor Day gas prices

Gas prices average $3.41 per gallon compared to $3.59 last year

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Thousands of people are hitting the road this Labor Day weekend  and you may be pleasantly surprised to learn gas prices are at their lowest level since 2010.

Despite the conflict in the Middle East and uncertainty about long-term Russian energy supplies prices are averaging $3.41 a gallon for regular.

Compare that to Labor Day weekend in 2013 when prices averaged $3.59 and Labor Day weekend in 2012 when prices averaged $3.83 a gallon.

Even with the lower prices  it still costs quite a bit for some people to fill up their tanks.

"I'm usually looking around $70 or $80. I still think gas prices are a little too high," said Ken Parry.

Analysts said crude oil prices have dropped around with world despite what's happening in the Middle East and Russia. America is also producing more oil on its own.

"Since my husband's working I fill it up at least once a week. But I have to fill it up every week and I have to get food for the house every week. It gets tiring," said Ana Aponte.

Gas prices starting falling in July. They're expected to keep falling through November.

"I think many people are trying to save a buck," said Shetish Rajana.

"I try not to do as many large trips. Fortunately I don't have too far to work. That helps, we do long road trips. We take my wife's car which is more economical," said Ken Parry.
