Lake City police: Burglar caught stealing iPads, purse from bus

Burglar allegedly steals items from bus returning from Grad Bash at Universal Resort Orlando

LAKE CITY, Fla. – Police are asking for the public's help finding a man who was caught stealing items from inside a bus returning from the Grad Bash at Universal Resort Orlando.

A Trailways bus was full of high school seniors and their chaperones returning home from Orlando.

At 12:55 p.m. Sunday, April 27, a surveillance camera on the bus caught the burglar red-handed, police said.

Lake City police said the video showed a young black man in what appeared to be burgundy basketball shorts with a white stripe, a tank-top shirt and multi-colored Atlanta Braves hat as he entered the opened, empty and running bus and stole several items from the front two seats and left. The stolen items included two iPads and a purse.

There are currently no known witnesses to the burglary and investigators are asking for the community's help in identifying the man. Police said the man had several noticeable tattoos.

"We welcome visitors into our city with open arms and it is unfortunate the visitors into our city were victims of this kind of crime," said Chief Argatha Gilmore. "This suspect -- once identified -- will be brought to justice quickly and we hope this will bring some resolve to these two victims passing through our great city. We again ask our community -- see something, say something."

Anyone with information about this robber is asked to call the department's tip line at 386-719-2068 or investigator Tammy Cox, of the Criminal Investigations Division, at 386-758-5471.
