Lake City police report suspicious activity at softball game

LAKE CITY, Fla. – An 8-year-old girl reported Monday that someone grabbed her arm inside a bathroom at a Lake City youth softball game, the Lake City Police Department said.

Around 8:45 p.m., while her parents were watching their older daughter play in a softball game, the 8-year-old went to the restroom at the fields on SW Bascom Norris Drive.

The girl said an unknown person grabbed her arm and began escorting her out of the building, but she kicked the person, snatched her arm away and ran back to her parents.

LCPD said there are no known suspects in the case, but the following public safety announcement is being sent via social media about the incident:

"The Lake City/Columbia County Youth Baseball Association and the Lake City Police Department want to remind all parents, guardians and family members that the person responsible for your child's safety while at the Sports Complex, is YOU. We are asking all to be alert and attentive when your child is playing, going to the concession stand, or to the restroom.

We would also ask, if you intend to drop off your child as a player or a spectator, that they are turned over to someone who is already at the complex and not just drop them off on their own. We appreciate everyone's assistance in keeping the children safe while at the Sports Complex."

Anyone with any other information about the incident can contact CID Investigator Ivan Useche at (386) 758-5477.
