A 53-year-old Lake City woman died early Thursday morning when her car crossed into oncoming traffic on State Road 100 and struck a pickup truck head-on, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Cynthia Brandt was westbound about 6:35 a.m. when her Pontiac crossed the center line into the eastbound lane.  An eastbound Ford Ranger driven by Lynn Jones, 47, of Lake City, swerved to the right, but couldn't avoid being struck by the car.

Brandt died at the scene and Jones was airlifted to UF Health in Gainesville with serious injuries.

According to the FHP report, neither driver was wearing a seat belt.
