JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A 21-year-old Jacksonville man was critically injured in a single-vehicle crash on the Southside Connector early Wednesday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

State troopers said Kevin Lindsey was driving northbound in the right lane about 2:30 a.m. when he failed to maintain control of his car while negotiating a curve north of Merrill Road.

The car went onto the right shoulder and began to rotate. It then traveled onto the left shoulder area and into the grass median and ditch and began to overturn.

The car went across the grassy area up an embankment onto the Southside Connector's southbound shoulder.

Troopers said Lindsey was thrown from the car. They said he was not wearing a seat belt.

Lindsey was taken to UF Health Jacksonville in critical condition.

Troopers said blood alcohol content results are pending.
