JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A 31-year-old Jacksonville man is charged with murder in the death of a 29-year-old man inside Mascara's Gentleman's Club in October 2012.

Stanley Merriweather is accused of killing Glenn Adams at the club near the intersection of Southside and Beach boulevards, shooting him once in the chest, according to police.

Police said Merriweather turned himself in Thursday night.

Officers were called to the club about 3:20 a.m. Oct. 6, 2012. Witnesses told police Adams and his friend were inside the club in the VIP section receiving dances from two dancers employed by the club.

Witnesses said Merriweather approached Adams, his friend and the dancers and got into an altercation with one of the dancers over money, according to a police report. Police said Merriweather struck the dancer with his hand, and Adams then began throwing punches at Merriweather.

Police said Merriweather pulled out a gun and shot Adams, killing him.

Three witnesses identified Merriweather as the suspect, police said.

Merriweather has a lengthy criminal history.
