COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. -

A 49-year-old Fort White man was killed early Friday morning when he was hit by a car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

State troopers said Edmound Waller was possibly kneeling or bending over for an unknown reason while in the eastbound lane of County Road 18, just east of County Road 131, about 4:35 a.m.

Troopers said a car driven by 30-year-old Christopher Lites, of Fort White, was heading eastbound on County Road 18 when it struck Waller. Troopers said Lites did not see Waller, who was wearing dark clothing and was in an area with no artificial lighting.

Waller died at the scene. Lites was not hurt.

Troopers said charges are pending further investigation.
