Man accidentally shot in the buttocks

Victim taken to hospital by father; expected to be OK

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was shot in the buttocks late Thursday night in the Brentwood area, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Around 11:30 p.m. officers were dispatched to UF Health Jacksonville in reference to a victim with a gunshot wound to his buttocks. Police were told the incident happened in an area near East 20th and Liberty streets.

According to JSO, no crime scene was located, but a witness told them that the victim was accidentally shot while he and another man, with a gun in his pocket, were involved in a mutual combat.

Police said the victim was taken to UF Health by his father and has non-life-threatening injuries.

This case is being investigated by JSO's Violent Crimes Task Force.
