JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man who shot and killed a man with a sword in November was charged Thursday with murder.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says Paris Regal went to 56-year-old Glen Tucker's Westside home to collect a drug debt, and wanted it paid in prescription pain killers. Detectives said when Tucker refused and Regal pistol-whipped him.
Regal, 25, told police he left the house and Tucker came after him with a decorative sword -- striking him in the head and shoulder with it -- so he shot Tucker in self-defense.
Regal was arrested that day on drug and attempted robbery charges. On Thursday, the charge of murder was added. Investigators say the physical evidence, and witness accounts did not support Regal's claim of self-defense.

At a first appearance before a judge Friday morning, Regal was ordered held without bond.
Regal has a long criminal history, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, tampering with or fabricating evidence, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of hashish and paraphernalia and several counts of possession of a controlled substance.
