Troopers say man tried to transport contraband from Miami to Jacksonville for profit

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – Troopers have arrested a 44-year-old man accused of trying to transport marijuana from Miami to Jacksonville for profit.

The incident began at 10:07 a.m. Wednesday when authorities said troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol Criminal Interdiction Unit initiated a traffic stop on Interstate 95 and State Road 206.

FHP said the violation of illegal window tint was observed by the trooper as the suspect's vehicle, a silver Ford F-150 pickup, had passed, which troopers said the window tint was significantly darker than the legal limit.

By utilizing advanced interviewing techniques, troopers said they became suspicious that the driver may have been involved in illegal activity. The driver voluntarily consented to a search of the truck and its contents.

During the initial search, troopers said they detected the odor of raw cannabis or marijuana from the inside of the truck.

A large box was found in the rear passenger compartment of the truck after further investigation.

Inside the box, a large dog food bag was found. Troopers said the dog food bag contained 30 brick shaped packages of 1.1 pounds of compressed high grade marijuana.

During the investigation, troopers said 44-year-old Roger Silva Aguilera of Miami (pictured, right) admitted to transporting the marijuana from Miami to Jacksonville for profit.

Aguilera was taken to St. Johns County Jail without incident and charged with trafficking marijuana, possession of marijuana over 20 grams and possession of marijuana with intent to sell.

Troopers said the street value of the seized marijuana has been estimated at approximately $120,000. The contraband was placed in FHP Evidence for prosecution purposes.
