Man charged in Christmas Day beating

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -

A man who Jacksonville Beach police said beat and held captive a woman on Christmas Day has now been identified by the victim and charged.

Maximillian Michaels is charged with attempted felony murder and false imprisonment.

Police were called to the 1800 block of First Street Sorth at about 5 p.m. Dec. 25 to conduct a welfare check on a homeowner after a neighbor told police he hadn't seen the owner in a few days.

Officers said they knocked on the door of the home and were immediately met by Michaels, who they said was brandishing a sword and threatening the officers. Officers responded by stunning him with a Taser.

The homeowner was then located in a rear bedroom bleeding. She had severe injuries to her head and face. She was immediately taken to a local hospital and then later flown to UF Health Jacksonville.

After months of rehabilitation and treatment, the victim has finally recovered enough to assist detectives in the investigation, police said. They said she was able to identify Michaels as the suspect who brutally beat her.

Michaels, who has been in the Duval County jail since Christmas Day in connection with the assault on the officers, is now facing the additional charges.
