ORLANDO, Fla. -

Police say a driver who sped away from an officer died in a crash minutes later on Orlando's John Young Parkway.

Police approached the vehicle Sunday evening because it was stopped in a turn lane near Interstate 4. The officer said he asked the driver to get out of the vehicle, but the driver did not comply and he sped south on John Young Parkway.

By the time the officer got back to his vehicle and began traveling south on John Young Parkway, police said he noticed a fire further down the road.  The red vehicle had crashed into a minivan and overturned, and the minivan caught fire, according to police.

The 20-year-old driver of the red vehicle was killed. Police have not his identity.

Some of the six occupants of the minivan were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
