A person was transported to UF Health in Gainesville in critical condition after an ATV accident Monday night in Columbia County.

Michael Shane Williams, 36, of Lake City, was driving his ATV down Tarikin Terrace about 9 p.m. after a period of heavy rain, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The roads were muddy. Williams made a 90-degree turn and the ATV overturned and ejected him.

Family and friends who were on the scene stated Williams was found face down in the dirt.

Williams was transported to UF Health in critical condition. He was not wearing a helmet, according to the FHP report.

Detectives on scene say Williams appeared intoxicated and was unconscious when they arrived. Police obtained a blood sample and charges in the crash are pending the results.
