Lake City police said a man shot and killed himself inside a shed late Saturday night while his two children were inside their home.

It happened on Gwen Lake Boulevard around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police said a neighbor called after hearing two loud pops from a home. Within minutes of receiving the call, a woman arrived at the police station saying she was just shot at by her boyfriend as she was running out the front of the house.

The woman also told police that the man's 8 and 10-year-old daughters were still inside the home.

A number of agencies were then called out to the home including the Columbia County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team and its Hostage Negotiations Team. When they did not get a response from the man inside, they entered the home and got the two girls out of the home safely.

Police say they found Christopher Tolley, 37, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside a shed.
