Man dead in pedestrian accident in Palatka

PALATKA, Fla. -

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say a pedestrian was killed in accident about 2:45 a.m. Saturday in Palatka.

Troopers say a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Brandon Knudsen, of Satsuma, hit 28-year-old Zachary Vittetow, of Glen St. Mary.

Troopers say Knudsen was driving south on U.S. 17 at 1st Street in the city limits of Palatka before the Memorial Bridge and Vittetow was crossing the southbound lanes of U.S. 17 at 1st Street and was not in the crosswalk.  Vittetow died at the scene according to troopers.

Crash investigators say Knudsen was not injured.  It wasn't immediately known if was alcohol a factor in the accident, but the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
