Man dies in motorcycle crash in Flagler County

Motorcycle hit van that crossed into his lane on U.S. 1

PALM COAST, Fla. – A Middleburg motorcyclist is dead after his motorcycle was struck in a head-on collision and burst into flames Saturday night in Palm Coast. 

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the van was going north on U.S. 1 about 9:40 p.m., nearing the intersection with County Road 304, when the driver, Gary Wyatt, swerved to avoid hitting a car stopped in front of him.  Wyatt crossed into the southbound lane, directly into the path of Ronald Salyer, who riding in a southbound lane on a motorcycle. Salyer crashed into the van, and his motorcycle immediately burst into flames.

Salyer, 55, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another motorcyclist traveling near Salyer was able to avoid hitting the van.  Neither Wyatt, 64, nor a 74-year-old passenger in his van was injured.

According to the FHP report, charges are pending.
