Man driving motorized wheelchair arrested for DUI, Palm Bay police say

PALM BAY, Fla. – Palm Bay police arrested a man on driving under the influence charges after they say the man was obstructing bridge traffic on his motorized wheelchair.

Ronny Scott Hicks, 54, was arrested Monday night at Helen Avenue and Margaret Street NE.

Police said they were called to the bridge for a report of an intoxicated man and obstructing the bridge.

When they arrived, police said they noticed an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the Hicks, who had slurred speech.

Hicks didn't follow instructions and refused to give a breath test, according to the report.

Hicks was arrested and refused treatment for an open wound. He has two prior convictions for DUI, police said.
