JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 50-year-old man was convicted Thursday afternoon for the first-degree murder of his former neighbor, according to state attorneys.

In May 2012, Dennis Glover told his girlfriend that he heard screams coming from 51-year-old Sandra Allen's home, which was two doors down, and thought he should go check on her.

When police arrived, officers discovered Allen had been strangled and stabbed to death.

State attorneys said police later matched blood found on Glover's shoes to Allen. Glover's DNA was also on Allen in multiple locations.

The death penalty phase begins Dec. 19. State attorneys said the jury will recommend if Glover should be sentenced to death or life in prison without parole.

The final sentencing decision will be made by Judge Mallory Cooper, authorities said.
