VIDEO: Investigators responding to a call about gunfire on the Northside find a man's body slumped over the steering wheel.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Homicide detectives with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office are investigating after a man was found slumped over the wheel of a car off the side of a Northside street early Monday afternoon after witnesses saw a second man get out and run away.

Police released the victim's identity early Thursday morning.  They said Anthony Bencivenga, 30, was shot while seated in the driver's seat of a vehicle at 55th Street and 6500 North Main Street.  They said Bencivenga drove to 100 Andress Street and died from his injuries.

Officers found the car after responding to a call about gunfire about 12:30 p.m.

"(The officer) walked up to the car; he stepped back from the car, he called for backup," Kemp said. "Two officers came from both directions, and then the five of them started yelling, 'Put your hands up! Come out of the car; put your hands up. Let us see your hands.' There was no response, and when they opened the driver's side door, the man was deceased."

Police are searching for the suspect.

"My detectives are doing a canvas up and down these blocks that you were talking about, going door to door. As you can tell, this is a residential neighborhood and you have a lot of homes," said Sgt. Dan Janson.

Police are asking anyone with any information about the gunfire or the man's death to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
