JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A 61-year-old pedestrian was hit and killed by a city bus Saturday night in downtown Jacksonville, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Investigators were called to the intersection of Beaver and Newnan Streets around 8:45 p.m.

JSO Detective J.D. Gregory said the bus was making a left turn on a green light onto Beaver Street when it struck the man, later identified as Timothy E. Mclaughlin.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gregory said the driver called police right away and she was taken to the hospital because she was "pretty shaken up."  Her name was not released.

Gregory said two people riding the bus at the time were not hurt.
