JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A 59-year-old Jacksonville man was sentenced this week to 65 years in prison with a 53-year minimum mandatory for his conviction of attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

In April 2013, Leon Bullard and the victim, who were friends at the time, got into a verbal argument over money.

The argument became physical after Bullard chest-bumped the victim. The victim then pushed Bullard down and walked away.

Bullard pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the shoulder, then began to beat the victim with the pistol.
