Bennett was taken to Putnam Community Medical Center, then flown to Shands Hospital in Gainesville with severe injuries to his head and scalp.

Deputies and Animal Control officers said they captured a large Rottweiler roaming loose in the area. Family members identified the dog as belonging to Bennett.

The dog was euthanized Tuesday morning, and tissue samples were sent to a lab for testing.
