Man shoots gun in home, threatens suicide

Robert Larson, 49, taken into protective custody

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. – A man who fired a gun in his home during an argument and threatened to commit suicide was taken into protective custody Tuesday.

Deputies were called to the home of Robert Larson, 49, at 2618 Southeast Country Club Road around 3:40 p.m. after they received reports that Larson was suicidal and was armed.

The dispatcher told deputies Larson armed himself with a pistol during an argument. The investigation revealed that Larson fired the pistol into a piece of furniture before making statements about killing himself.

Larson's girlfriend reportedly talked him into discarding the gun. He then ran out of the home and a search began for him began.

Columbia County Sheriff's Office officials were able to get hold of Larson and took him into protective custody under the Baker Act without incident.

Deputies said the bullet did not leave the home and no one was injured.
