A man shot and killed during an early Saturday morning robbery on the westside. Now police are searching for whoever is responsible.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Police say a man was shot and killed early Saturday morning at Jammes Road and Harlow Boulevard.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said the victim was sitting at a bus stop with a woman when the suspect approached on foot and demanded the woman's purse.

"The victim confronted the suspect and was shot at least once before the suspect left on foot with the woman's purse," said Sgt. Shawn Coarsey.

Police responded about 4:30 a.m. and the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene, said Coarsey.

The woman did not suffer any injuries, police said.

"I'm not blaming anyone for sitting at a bus stop at 4:30 in the morning, but at that time of the day, someone sitting out in the open is attractive to the criminal element," said Coarsey.
