FOLKSTON, Ga. – The man shot and killed Tuesday night during what the Charlton County Sheriff's Office called a home invasion of two sisters was convicted of attacking another woman six years ago.
Jonathan Green, 40, was shot three times by a 64-year-old woman after she and her 75-year-old sister were attacked in the Cedar Ridge Road home. When investigators arrived, Green was found dead in the yard outside the home.
News4Jax has heard from another Charlton County woman she had a terrifying ordeal with Green that lead to an aggravated battery in 2009.
Mary Jane Allen remembers it like it was yesterday.
"The doorbell rang, I answered it. I pulled this way and fell backwards" Allen described. "I was screaming, but they didn't hear me because you can't hear nothing through these walls. I screamed myself hoarse."
Allen said Green dragged her into a bedroom and began choking her. In the process, her thumb was broken in two places. She believes something divine took over and a cross and photos of Christ on her bedroom wall may have saved her life.
"When he seen that, he stopped and took off," Allen said.
Green was arrested and eventually pleaded guilty to aggravated battery and burglary. He was sentenced to 20 years of probation.
Allen said when she saw the news that Green was killed during a home invasion Tuesday night, she almost couldn't believe it.
"I couldn't believe it. I thought, 'What in the world is wrong with him?' Why, what was he looking for? What was wrong?" Allen said.
Allen knows police are still investigating what happened in this week's home invasion, but for her, the nightmare is over.
"I hope God forgave him. I know Jesus would forgive him," Allen said. "That's the first thing they asked me, if I forgave him, and I said, 'Yes.' I said, 'Why shouldn't I?' If Jesus forgives, why can't we?'"
News4Jax spoke to one of the Green's victims from Tuesday's attack. She said she can't talk about the details of what happened but she did want to express her condolences to Green's family. She feels awful for how everything played out, but believes she had to do what she had to do."
