Man sought in jewelry store robbery at St. Augustine outlet mall

Robbery at Zales Jewelry in St. Augustine Premium Outlets investigated

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A man who used a pillow case to steal jewelry from a store in St. Augustine is currently being sought by the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

The armed robbery happened around 10:20 a.m. Wednesday at Zales Jewelry on State Road 16 in St. Augustine Premium Outlets.

Witnesses told deputies the man entered the jewelry store and produced a small semi-automatic handgun.

The man was carrying a cream-colored pillow case which he demanded the clerks put an unknown amount of jewelry inside, the Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies said the man then fled the store and entered the passenger side of a newer model (2010 or later) white vehicle that was possibly a Honda or Toyota, which was parked in the fire lane just outside of the store.

The vehicle fled south through the parking lot towards State Road 16 and then in an unknown direction from there, the Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies did not provide a description for the driver of the vehicle.

The man, who deputies said was possibly black, wore dark-colored pants, a dark-colored long-sleeve shirt, white gloves and a black hoodie.
