CLERMONT, Fla. – A man who was armed with a knife is dead after a deputy-involved shooting, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

It happened Saturday afternoon on Firestone Circle in a country-club community in Clermont.

Deputies received a call about a family member who was causing a disturbance and refusing to leave the home.

The homeowners wanted their son, Daniel Howard Davis, 58, to leave, but he repeatedly refused, deputies said.

Two deputies arrived at the home and attempted to get Davis to leave, but he continued to refuse and was belligerent with the deputies, according to the Sheriff's Office.

During their conversation, Davis produced a Buck knife with a locking blade. One deputy shot Davis with a stun gun, but Davis was able to remove the prongs, the Sheriff's Office said.

Davis then told deputies that "someone was going to die" and he lunged with the knife at the other deputy, authorities said. The deputy then shot Davis.

Davis was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said.

Davis' mother told deputies that Davis had said earlier in the day that he was going to die Saturday, the Sheriff's Office said.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrived at the home to conduct an investigation.

The Sheriff's Office said both deputies were placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of a preliminary review of the incident, which is standard procedure for officer-involved shootings.
